About This Course

This course is designed for teachers of psychology to provide them with the necessary linguistic and technical package to help them give instruction in English. The course, therefore, is English for Academic Purposes (EAP) course as its prime aim is to equip teachers with basic linguistic and communicative skills that enable them to interact with their students and deliver information in English. The course takes into consideration the fact that target learners study English as a foreign language and that they are more concerned about English specific to their fields of expertise, namely psychology.

Skills

In this online course, learners will be able to:
1. Identify the rhetorical structure of texts in psychology.
2. Acquire terminology specific to fields of expertise
3. Develop vocabulary-building skills via the process of affixation
4. Practice grammatical aspects that mostly categorize texts in psychology.
5. Read and interpret texts in English.

Requirements

Target learners should have level A2 (elementary English). In other words, they can understand sentences and frequently used expressions . They can communicate and exchange information in simple and routine tasks using simple terms, aspects of their background, and immediate environment. By the end of the course, learners should have reached level B2.

Dr. Maha LOUNIS

Dr. Lounis Maha is an associated professor (MCA) at the department of foreign languages in Abdelhafid Boussouf University, Mila, Algeria. She holds a doctorate degree in applied linguistic studies. Before becoming a university teacher, she had experienced teaching in middle school for a few years. She is interested in pragmatics, culture and language, cross-cultural studies, comparative/ Contrastive studies, and ESP, and she has conducted some research in some of these fields of interest. She is currently interested in finding and developing ways to help Algerian university teachers use English in their instruction.

Dr. Fatiha Sahli, Constantyine1 University, Algeria

Dr. Fatiha SAHLI is a senior associate professor in Applied Linguistics at the Department of English, Constantine 1 University, Algeria. She occupied different pedagogical and administrative responsibilities. She has a major in applied linguistics, ELT, ESP, Pragmatics, and educational psychology, and a minor in Translation Studies. Her expertise covers applied linguistics, learners’ autonomy, e learning and technology. She is much interested in teaching the four skills. She has many national publications; she participated in many national and international conferences. And she supervised PhD theses and many master dissertations.

Dr. Ahmed BELHANI, Constantine 1 University , Algeria.

Dr. Ahmed Belhani is a senior associate professor in automation at the University of Constantine1 since 2004. In 2007, he was qualified as an e-learning specialist within the framework of the Algero-Swiss COSELEARN project. In 2012, in parallel with his specialized university course, He obtained his professional Master's degree in educational technologies from the University of Cergy Pontoise, for the qualification «Pedagogical engineer". In 2018, he became a professional in the design of MOOCs, following training with MIT. Dr. Ahmed BELHANI is the designer of the "ICT and teaching practices" training system launched in 2012 for the benefit of University Constantine 1’s teachers and which has been expanded for the training of partner establishments in the Maghreb and Europe, as part of the Tempus EUMILL project. From 2014-2016, the training was extended to the community of teachers from different national universities. In September 2022, Dr. Ahmed BELHANI was nominated as the president of the national commission for distance education.

Dr. Souad HAOUARI, Constantine 1 University , Algeria.

Ms Souad HAOURI is an assistant professor from the Department of Geographic Sciences and Topography, (Faculty of Earth Sciences, Geography and Regional Planning, Frères Mentouri Constantine 1 University). She owes a Master Degree in Urban Planning. Her areas of interest cover applied geography, geomatics applied to planning, sustainable development and heritage. She passed a training in ICT and teaching practices during the academic year 2016/2017 before joining the staff of tutors in the same pedagogic training which is targeted to the newly recruited teachers (since 2017).
